How does TierFinder work?
The technology behind pet search
CLIP Image Recognition
TierFinder uses CLIP ViT-L/14, a neural network by OpenAI, that converts images into 768-dimensional vectors. When you upload a photo of your pet, our AI creates a visual fingerprint and compares it against all other reports in the database. This works regardless of breed, color or angle — even partially obscured or blurry animals are reliably recognized. Unlike text-based registries like TASSO that rely on microchip numbers, TierFinder's image recognition works for the 54% of pets that are not registered anywhere.
Geo Scoring
Every report is tagged with GPS coordinates. Our geo scoring calculates the Haversine distance between lost and found reports and weights closer matches higher. A dog found 2 km away receives a significantly higher match score than one 50 km away. The result: more precise matches and fewer false alarms. The radius search works across the entire DACH region covering Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Mallorca.
Instant Notification
As soon as our system detects a high-probability match (score above 70%), both parties are notified immediately — via email or through our Telegram Bot (@tierfinder_bot). You don't need to constantly check the platform. The AI works around the clock in the background and notifies you as soon as there is news. The notification includes contact details of the other party, the match score and direct links to both reports. Most lost dogs are found within 72 hours — fast notification can make all the difference.
All data is stored GDPR-compliant on German servers. No personal data is shared with third parties and no tracking cookies are used. The image recognition runs entirely on our own infrastructure — your photos never leave the European region. Contact details like phone numbers and email addresses are automatically masked so they are not publicly visible. TierFinder is free and always will be — we fund this project as a social impact initiative by StudioMeyer, an AI agency based in Mallorca.

TierFinder is completely free for shelters and animal welfare organizations. No account needed, no hidden costs. Report your animals directly via the website, the Telegram bot or via MCP integration in Claude Desktop. Batch operations allow managing multiple animals at once. Your shelter is automatically listed in our verified shelter database.
Onboarding takes less than 5 minutes. Simply open the website or add the MCP server in Claude Desktop — and you can manage your animals directly from the AI assistant. Over 10 verified shelters across Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Mallorca already use TierFinder. The platform supports three languages: German, English and Spanish.
TierFinder provides an open-source MCP server that allows third-party applications and AI assistants to access the animal database directly. This opens up entirely new possibilities for collaboration between animal welfare organizations and technology platforms.
