Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about TierFinder.

General

What is TierFinder?
TierFinder is a free AI platform that reunites lost pets with found animals. You report a pet with a photo and location — our AI automatically compares all reports and notifies both parties when there's a match.
How much does TierFinder cost?
Nothing. TierFinder is completely free — for individuals, shelters and animal welfare organisations. No hidden fees, no subscriptions, no premium tier. Ever.
Who is behind TierFinder?
TierFinder is built by StudioMeyer, an AI agency based in Mallorca. Our founder Matthias lives on the island with 7 dogs.
Which countries does TierFinder cover?
TierFinder focuses on the DACH region: Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The platform is available in German, English and Spanish.

Pet missing

My pet is missing — what should I do?
1. Stay calm. 2. Search the immediate area. 3. Create a report on TierFinder (with a photo!). 4. Contact TASSO and FINDEFIX (the main pet registers in DACH). 5. Alert your neighbours.
How does the AI matching work?
Our AI uses CLIP (an image recognition model) to create a digital profile of every pet photo. These profiles are automatically compared. Geographical proximity is also factored in.
Do I absolutely need a photo?
A photo significantly increases the chance of a match. Text-based search works without one, but image matching is far more accurate.
Does TierFinder replace registering with TASSO/FINDEFIX?
No! Always register your pet with TASSO and FINDEFIX as well. TierFinder complements these registries by adding AI-powered image recognition.

Pet found

I found a pet — what now?
1. Secure the animal. 2. Check for a microchip tag or collar. 3. Report the found animal on TierFinder. 4. Visit a vet (to scan the chip). 5. In Germany, call the TASSO hotline: 06190/937300.
Am I legally required to report a found animal?
In Germany, yes. Found animals are legally classed as found property (§965 BGB). The owner has 6 months to reclaim the pet. In Austria and Switzerland, similar obligations apply through local authorities.

For shelters

How can shelters use TierFinder?
The easiest way: install Claude Desktop and add our MCP Server. Then you can talk directly to Claude to register and match animals.
What is an MCP Server?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that allows AI assistants like Claude to communicate directly with external services — no coding required.

Technical

What AI does TierFinder use?
We use CLIP ViT-L/14 by OpenAI for image recognition. Similarity search runs on pgvector in PostgreSQL. Everything runs on our own servers in Germany.
Is my data safe?
Yes. All data is stored on our servers in Germany. We don't sell data and we don't use tracking cookies. Fully GDPR-compliant.
